Research has confirmed that 440,000 patients are killed every year in America by preventable medical errors.
Worth repeating: preventable medical errors; 440.000 patients killed.
That is equivalent to almost the entire population of Atlanta, Ga. dying each year. Our law practice has had the privilege of representing many medical malpractice victims as clients. Yet, it is still a staggering notion that the most recent research is showing that preventable medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States.
Medical negligence is costing our country tens of billions of dollars a year. The malpractice insurance lobby has tried to paint plaintiffs and trial lawyers as a leading cause of increasing American health care costs.
We have known that they’ve been wrong, and that they’ve misrepresented the true situation to everyone, including the physicians who would understandably assume that their own insurance company was telling the truth.
The impact of medical malpractice litigation on health costs has been proven to be minimal; with overall costs that pale in comparison to the staggering cost and carnage caused by the underlying, preventable medical errors.
Despite this serious epidemic, corporate front groups are working hard in the U.S. Congress and state legislatures throughout the country to limit accountability and access to the civil justice system when patients are harmed or killed by medical errors.
We aim to raise public awareness of the patient safety epidemic plaguing our country. Too many patients have lost their lives, and too many family members have had their lives turned upside down, because of preventable medical errors.
